Palissy occupies the south of Joinville-le-Bas, on the left bank, south of the avenue du Général-Gallieni which separates it from Polangis. The district extends over the avenue de Palissy, the avenue des Familles, the avenue du Président-Wilson, the avenue des Platanes, the rue du 42e-de-Ligne, the avenue Joyeuse, the avenue Théodore, the rue Marcel-Carné, the allée du Pont-Olin, the quai Gabriel-Péri and the avenue de la Plage, on the riverside.
Until the nineteenth century, this side of the lower part of Joinville-le-Pont was farmland. From 1860, M. and Mme Gille divide their property into plots along the chemin de Brétigny, whose name is kept by the impasse Brétigny; the owner of ceramic workshops, M. Gille gives the district the name of Bernard Palissy, whose statue still stands there. It is here, at 20 avenue du Général-Gallieni, that Pathé builds the Joinville studios in 1921, on a 16 500 m² site between the avenue du Général-Gallieni, the avenue Joyeuse and the avenue du Président-Wilson: Le Quai des brumes was shot there in 1938 and Les Enfants du paradis in 1945, two films by Marcel Carné, to whom a street in the district is dedicated. The studios closed in 1987 and the buildings were demolished in 1991. Contrary to what is often written, they were not in Polangis. The housing estate of 1860 is now mixed with small blocks of flats and with social housing estates, including the cités Vergnon, Marcel-Carné, Président-Wilson and Théodore.
Palissy stands at 5 441 €/m², 3 % below the town-wide average, with 43 apartment sales a year: it is, with Centre-ville, the largest market in the municipality. The district is down 11 % over five years, one of the two sharpest falls in Joinville-le-Pont, but gains 5,1 % over twelve months.
Palissy is, with Centre-ville, the largest market in Joinville-le-Pont, at 43 apartment sales a year, for an average price of 5 441 €/m², 3 % below the town-wide average. The district grew out of a housing estate of 1860 and keeps a suburban house grid, since completed by small blocks of flats and by social housing estates. The buyer profile is that of families looking for space at a price below that of Centre-ville, of first-time buyers and of investors. Three points to examine. The range, from 4 864 to 5 999 €/m², is the tightest in the municipality: the average price is a fair description of an ordinary apartment in the district. The avenue du Général-Gallieni, the main road through the lower part of Joinville-le-Pont and the former nationale 4, carries heavy traffic: between an address on that road and one on an avenue of the housing estate, the difference is paid for. Lastly, the fall of 11 % over five years, from 6 125 €/m² in 2021 to 5 441 in 2026, has come to a halt: the price is up 5,1 % over the last twelve months.

From the ceramicist Bernard Palissy, who died in 1589. M. Gille, the owner of ceramic workshops, who with his wife divided their property on the chemin de Brétigny into plots from 1860, admired him and gave his name to the district. A statue of Bernard Palissy still stands there.
