The history of the district

The Verdun district stretches south-west of the centre of Albi, between the place de Verdun, the place Jean-Jaurès and the boulevard Carnot. It took shape in the nineteenth century with the arrival of the railway and the laying out of the boulevards on the site of the former fortifications.

The area brings together several major facilities of the town: Albi-Ville station, on the place Stalingrad, the Grand Théâtre, on the place de l'Amitié entre les Peuples, and, on its southern edge, the campus of the Champollion university on the place de Verdun. The fabric there mixes nineteenth-century tenement buildings, more recent small blocks of flats and town houses, along the avenue du Général de Gaulle and the boulevard Edouard Andrieu.

On the market, Verdun sits at around 2 561 €/m² for an apartment, above the town average, on a volume of around 35 sales a year. The district has fallen by around 6 % over five years, but has recovered around 11 % over the last twelve months. The student presence there sustains demand for small units.

Verdun attracts investors, working people and buyers looking for closeness to the station, the cultural venues and the historic centre.
