Cantimpré occupies the north-west of Cambrai, along the Saint-Quentin canal, around the inland port. The district takes its name from the former collegiate church of Cantimpré, of which little remains, and opened onto the water after the dismantling of the fortifications, which allowed a more direct course for the canal.
