The history of the district

Ville-Port is the maritime district of Saint-Nazaire, organised around the harbour, the basins and the submarine base. That bunker, built during the Second World War, overlooked a vast industrial wasteland before its conversion at the end of the twentieth century.

In 1994, the town launched the Ville-Port project to redevelop that area. From 1997, openings were cut into the base to reopen the district onto the harbour, and a ramp gives access to the roof of the bunker, now a viewpoint over the town, the estuary, the Saint-Nazaire bridge and the Chantiers de l'Atlantique. Cultural and visitor venues have settled there.

The district today combines the Loire waterfront, the basins, bars and restaurants, in a lively maritime atmosphere. Le Petit Maroc, the neighbouring older area, extends that harbour identity. That reclaimed setting explains a price level close to the town average.

Who buys in Ville-Port

Ville-Port attracts buyers drawn to the maritime atmosphere and to neighbourhood life: working people looking for the proximity of the harbour and its events, first-time buyers and investors targeting rentals in a central, lively area. The reclaimed setting around the Loire waterfront and the basins steers demand towards buyers attached to the town's harbour identity.
