The history of the district

Sainte-Radegonde was an independent municipality until 1964, before being attached to Tours. This former right-bank village, north-east of the town, took shape on the slopes above the Loire, near the old abbey of Marmoutier, which shaped its history in the Middle Ages.

The village has kept a character of its own around its church, whose chancel, partly cut into the slope, is set within the rock. The slopes hold older houses, villas from the end of the nineteenth century and homes built against the rock face.

Its attachment to Tours in 1964 went with the building up of the heights, with residential areas developing on the plateau. The district keeps a village identity, sought after for its setting and its character.
