The history of the district

The Sud-Est district is an area in the south of Amiens that grew south of the outer boulevards, along the boulevard de Bapaume. A relatively recent district in its present form, it has gone through a deep transformation since the 1980s, combining the building of new homes with the refurbishment of workers' housing of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The area takes in the Faubourg de Hem, a former village long separate from Amiens, which became one of its outer districts. The faubourg grew in the nineteenth century with industry, in particular the velvet mill fitted with mechanical looms by Eugène Cosserat. This industrial and working-class memory still marks the built fabric of the district.

Today, the Sud-Est is one of the most visibly changing areas of Amiens, with demand carried by families and first-time buyers. Supply mixes refurbished workers' houses and more recent homes, which makes it an affordable residential area, now gaining value.

Who buys in Sud-Est

The urban renewal under way, affordable prices and the closeness of the residential areas of the south sustain a changing market.
