The history of the district

The railway station district spreads west of the historic centre, around Blois-Chambord station, opened in the nineteenth century on the line linking Paris-Austerlitz to Tours by way of Orléans. The arrival of the railway tipped the growth of the town towards this area, between the Loire quays and the hillside.

The district runs down to the quai du Foix and the quai Ulysse-Besnard, on the riverside, and extends westwards along the avenue Gambetta and the avenue Médicis. The rue de la Chocolaterie, which recalls the historic presence of Poulain chocolate in the town, today houses the Blois campus of INSA Centre-Val de Loire. Towards the north, the area continues out to the housing developments of Villejoint and the business zones of La Vallée Maillard.
