The site, long reduced to a few fishermen's and winegrowers' huts, developed from the 1930s and then, on a larger scale, as part of the Languedoc coastal development schemes of the 1960s and 1970s.

The Clape massif, a recognised wine appellation, separates the resort from the rest of the municipality and closes the horizon to the north.
