Le Pont du Las owes its name to the former bridge that crossed the Las, a small coastal river that flows down from Le Revest and runs alongside Mont Faron before reaching the harbour. The district took shape west of the centre, along the avenue du XVe-Corps.

With the growth of the arsenal and industry in the nineteenth century, workers and shopkeepers settled around this thoroughfare. The district has kept a strong working-class identity, tied to Toulon's industrial and maritime past. Its residents are known as the Lassipontains.

A commercial and lively district, Le Pont du Las hosts on the place Martin-Bidouré the city's second market, after that of the cours Lafayette. Prices there are among the most affordable in Toulon, which makes it an area sought after by first-time buyers.
