The history of the district

La Vallée is a district in the east of Amiens, next to the gare du Nord. It stretches between the inner boulevards to the west, the Somme to the north and the railway installations to the south. The area has a long history: archaeological digs there have uncovered the remains of the Gallo-Roman theatre of Samarobriva, ancient Amiens, along with warehouses and a Roman necropolis.

The district takes its name from the château de La Vallée, an eighteenth-century residence, and from its park. Abandoned after the fall of the Roman empire, the area was not truly built up until the arrival of the railway in the middle of the nineteenth century. The railway installations and freight traffic then brought the construction of warehouses, offices, residential buildings and the Sacré-Coeur church.

In the twenty-first century, La Vallée is going through a wide urban renewal scheme, the Gare-La Vallée project, which is transforming the eastern gateway of the city with new homes, offices and landscaping between the station and the floating gardens. Supply, long modest, is being enriched by new-build developments, which makes it a district in transition, still affordable but clearly gaining value.

Who buys in La Vallée

La Vallée attracts first-time buyers, working people who want to be near the station and investors interested in the renewal of the district. Demand focuses on the period apartments of the railway area and on the new-build developments of the Gare-La Vallée project. Its position at the eastern gateway of the city, next to the station, and its urban transformation sustain a changing market, at measured levels.
