The centre of Châteauroux covers the old core and the station area. The historic heart is arranged around the château Raoul, built on the left bank of the Indre around 937, the rue Grande and the place Gambetta. The couvent des Cordeliers and the musée Bertrand are its other landmarks.
To the south, the district extends towards the station, refurbished in 2021, with the avenue du Général-Ruby, the place Voltaire and the avenue de Verdun. The two areas are crossed by the same rue de la Gare, which links them and makes any clear separation impossible.
