Berriat, also called Chorier-Berriat or Saint-Bruno, occupies the west of Grenoble, a few minutes from the centre and the station. The district is organised around the cours Berriat, a straight 1 600 metre road that links the boulevard Gambetta to the Drac bridge, towards Fontaine. Mainly a shopping street, the cours combines a double tram line, a cycle path and car traffic along part of its route.
A former working-class and industrial district, Berriat keeps the memory of its workshops, some of which have been converted into cultural venues and homes. The Saint-Bruno market, held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, and the place Saint-Bruno around its church are living landmarks. The district is undergoing a gradual transformation that mixes period buildings, local shops, restaurants and independent addresses.
Sought after for its lively working-class atmosphere, its shops and its tram service, Berriat sits in an intermediate price range for Grenoble. Supply is made up mainly of period apartments, from studios to large flats, sought after by working people, students and investors drawn by the closeness of the centre and the station.
