Le Barry extends west of the centre of Millau, around the rue du Barry, the rue Alsace-Lorraine, the rue de la Liberté, the rue de Strasbourg and the avenue Alfred-Merle, which leads to the station, place Francis-Laborde. “Barry” means suburb in the Romance language: it is the former medieval suburb outside the walls, on the Roman road from Millau to Rodez, nicknamed the suburb of inns in the sixteenth century.
The Knights Hospitaller of Saint John settled there around 1160. The Wars of Religion led to the demolition of the commandery and the hospital of the Saint-Esprit; the Capuchins took over the ruins around 1598 and sold them to the town in 1825, which built the church of Saint-François and a school there. At the end of the nineteenth century, with the arrival of the railway, the suburb spread towards the rue de la Liberté and the rue Alsace-Lorraine. The district also includes, on the avenue de Verdun, the Beauregard estate, built in the 1960s, which since 2024 has been part of the “Centre ancien et Beauregard” priority urban neighbourhood; its regeneration, with 90 homes demolished and 155 rebuilt, began in June 2023.

Le Barry is an old suburb, close to the centre, the station and the Tarn, priced close to the Millau average, at 1 781 €/m². Its apartment sales take place mainly in late nineteenth-century buildings, rue de la Liberté, rue Alsace-Lorraine and around the station. The buyer profile is that of first-time buyers, workers who want the station and the centre within walking distance, and investors targeting rentals. Two points to examine. The buildings are old: roof, façades, common areas and approved works account for a large share of the value, and the range, from 1 439 to 2 025 €/m², reflects this. And the annual trend has been irregular, with a dip in 2023 to 1 591 €/m² before a recovery to 1 849 in 2025: the rise of 18 % over five years, from 1 511 €/m² in 2021 to 1 781 in 2026, gives a safer reading than the 7,2 % over twelve months.
