Combault is one of the two original villages of the commune. Until 1839 it was a hamlet separate from Pontault, laid out around its Saint-Denis church and place du Général-Leclerc, in the south of the present territory. It gave the second half of the name of the commune and of the name of its residents.
The district spread in the twentieth century over the whole southern part of the town, from rue de la Libération to rue Jean-Moulin, by way of rue de la Pierre-Rollet, rue Gilbert-Rey and the Pontillaut area. To the north, it extends through square Mendès-France, avenue Charles-Balézeaux and allée de la Charmille. At the far south, the edge of the Notre-Dame state forest, more than 2 000 hectares crossed by the GR14 long-distance path, borders the territory.
