The history of the district

The Europe district occupies the whole of the north of Saint-Quentin, beyond the ring boulevards. The area was built in the twentieth century, as the town spread beyond its rebuilt core, with residential blocks, housing estates and public facilities laid out along the avenue Robert-Schumann, the rue Boileau and the rue Fleming.

The area brings together several sub-districts that residents of Saint-Quentin tell apart: the upper boulevard Gambetta and the rue Camille-Desmoulins next to the centre, the rue de Lunéville and the rue de Bel-Air further north, then the rue Ampère, the rue Lavoisier and the rue Alexandre-Ribot towards the edge of the town, as far as the chemin de Léhaucourt. The Europe district council is one of the eight in the town.

On the market, Europe shows the highest average price in Saint-Quentin, around 1 510 €/m² for an apartment. That figure rests on a low volume, about 6 single-lot apartment sales a year: the district is mainly detached housing and apartments remain a minority there. The average should therefore be read as an order of magnitude, and an address-by-address valuation is more reliable here than elsewhere.

Who buys in Europe

Europe attracts families and working households looking for newer housing than in the rebuilt centre, with parking and a garden. Demand centres first on houses, by far the majority in the area, and secondarily on apartments in the residential blocks of the north. Price levels here are the highest in the town.
