The history of the district

Vermandois covers the whole of the west and north-west of Saint-Quentin, from the Saint-Martin faubourg to the wooded edge of the bois de la Chocque. The name is that of the historic region of which Saint-Quentin was the capital. The area brings together three of the eight district councils of the town, Vermandois, Saint-Martin/Oëstres and Saint-Jean, which form a single stretch of detached housing.

Its main street is the chaussée Romaine, a former Roman road now a town street, joined by the rue de Paris and the rue du Vieux-Port on the Saint-Martin side, the rue Denfert-Rochereau and the rue du Colonel-Fabien towards the Saint-Jean faubourg, and the streets named after Le Nord, Dunkerque, Lille, Douai or Roubaix, in the estates of the north-west. The district ends on the open country of the Vermandois.

On the market, Vermandois is the most affordable area of Saint-Quentin, at around 987 €/m² for an apartment, on about 9 single-lot sales a year. That volume is explained by the nature of the district: the supply here is almost entirely detached housing and apartments are marginal. The price shown therefore covers only a small part of the local market, and valuing a house here follows a different logic.

Who buys in Vermandois

Vermandois attracts first-time buyers and families looking for a house with a garden at a contained price, without leaving the town. Demand centres overwhelmingly on detached housing, from the brick faubourg houses to the more recent estates of the north-west. Apartments are scarce here and trade at the bottom of the town range.
