Paese Novu, literally the new village, occupies the plateau in the south-west of Bastia, above Montesoro. The district was built from the 1960s and 1970s onwards to accompany the growth of the town, on sloping farmland, around the Falcunaghja area.
It forms a residential whole of terraced blocks, served by the rue de Falconaja and the roads of the plateau, with its schools and its local shops. The Bastia hospital stands immediately on the western edge of the district. To the south and west, the area continues into Bassanese, then into the heights of Agliani and the chemins de Corbaja and de Pastoreccia, where housing thins out.
