The history of the district

Le Bourg is the historic heart of Bègles, laid out around the church of Saint-Pierre, built in the thirteenth century, and the town hall, on place du Général de Gaulle. The church, whose gable carries the inscription of the Republic, and the streets of old échoppes, the single-storey Bordeaux terraced houses, give the district its village character, at the centre of an otherwise very urban municipality.

Towards the east, the district continues into Le Dorat and Verduc, in the direction of the Garonne. It is here that the railway left its mark on Bègles: the SNCF depot and its workshops gave rise to a district of railway workers, which housed up to fifteen hundred rail employees in the 1970s. Le Bourg also concentrates the cultural facilities of the town, among them the musée de la Création Franche, devoted to outsider art.

On the market, Le Bourg stands at around 3 542 €/m² for an apartment, among the highest levels in Bègles, on a volume of about 28 sales a year. Demand focuses on the échoppes, the town houses and the apartments of the centre, valued for the proximity of shops and services.

Who buys in Le Bourg

Le Bourg attracts first-time buyers, families and buyers looking to be within immediate reach of the shops, the services and the life of a town centre, a few minutes from the Garonne and the tram. Demand covers the échoppes and town houses of the old heart as much as the apartments, at the top of the municipality's range.
