Massy-Opéra is the current name of the Massy-Antony large housing estate, a pilot scheme launched in 1962 to answer the post-war housing crisis and built over about ten years. The district occupies a quadrilateral bounded to the west by the town centre, to the north by the avenue du Président-Kennedy, to the east by le Petit Massy and to the south by the Georges-Brassens urban park.
The estate is laid out in blocks around a central square, the place de France, and can be read in its street names: allées du Danemark, du Japon or de Pologne, rues de Londres, de Lisbonne or de Moscou on the western side, rues du Languedoc, du Périgord or du Dauphiné on the eastern side. From the 1970s it was given a shopping centre, a library, a music school and a cinema. The opening of the Opéra de Massy, on 9 October 1993, gave it its current name.
