The Gare district spreads south of the historic centre, around place Mésirard, rue Saint-Denis and rue Saint-Martin, all three checked here inside the district boundary. It was built with the railway, when Dreux became a stop on the line linking Paris to Normandy.
Rue Pastre, place du Vieux-Pré, rue des Gaults and boulevard Pasteur form its backbone. The fabric mixes nineteenth-century tenement buildings, post-war blocks and small recent developments, in an area entirely within walking distance of the centre and the train.
