Le Bras de Fer takes up the south-east of Évry-Courcouronnes, towards Corbeil-Essonnes. The district took shape around its RER D station, opened on the line known as the Plateau branch, and around the scientific development of the area: the Genopole biocluster settled immediately nearby, which gave the station the name Bras de Fer - Genopole - Hôpital, the hospital in question, the southern Paris region hospital, standing in the neighbouring town of Corbeil-Essonnes.
The district takes in the Les Tourelles area, to the east, and Le Parc aux Lièvres, a development of close to a thousand homes built between 1968 and 1971, one of the first schemes of the new town, whose église Notre-Dame d'Espérance marks the roundabout. Both areas are covered by a single urban renewal project run with Grand Paris Sud, which provides for the demolition of the Parc aux Lièvres deck, the restructuring of the station hub and the building of several hundred new homes.
