The history of the district

Carabacel developed on the hillside linking the centre of Nice to the hill of Cimiez, driven by the rise of the winter resort in the late nineteenth century. The district was home to several grand hotels and palace hotels aimed at winter visitors, some of which have since been converted into residential buildings.

The architecture bears the mark of the Belle Époque: ornate façades, wrought-iron balconies and the generous proportions typical of the former hotel buildings. This heritage gives the district a residential and heritage character, distinct from the commercial areas of the centre.

Today, its hillside position, a few minutes from the centre and from Cimiez, makes it a quiet and sought-after area, valued as much for its quality of life as for the quality of its old building stock.

Who buys in Carabacel

The district attracts main-residence buyers seeking quiet in the immediate vicinity of the centre, lovers of characterful old buildings, as well as a share of investors targeting long-term rental. The presence of apartments of varied sizes, from studios to large units created from former palace hotels, widens the range of demand.
