The history of the district

Le Plateau occupies the west of Palaiseau, on the Saclay plateau, at 159 metres above sea level. Farmland for a long time, the area changed in nature with the arrival of the École polytechnique, since joined by Télécom Paris, ENSTA Paris and ENSAE within the Paris-Saclay cluster.

The Camille Claudel eco-district, opened in 2016, brought several thousand homes out of the ground there, around the rue Auguste-Rodin and the boulevard Thomas-Gobert. Further south the district also takes in Le Pileu and the hamlet of Les Joncherettes, areas of detached houses on the boundary with Massy and Igny, around the chemin de la Hunière.

On the market, Le Plateau shows the highest average price in Palaiseau, at around 4 699 €/m² for an apartment, on about 35 sales a year. The median, at 4 744 €/m², is above the average: the upper half of the market trades above the level of the district. Prices fall by 5,2 % over twelve months, after a high reached in 2023.

Who buys in Le Plateau

Le Pileu and Les Joncherettes, further south, answer a different kind of demand, from families looking for a detached house.
