The town centre of Évry-Courcouronnes is the heart of the new town. Built from the 1970s on former farmland, it rests on a raised pedestrian deck that separates road traffic from footways, a planning principle characteristic of the period. The place de l'Agora and the place des Terrasses are its gathering points.
The district concentrates the functions of a county town. It holds the town hall, on the place des Droits de l'Homme et du Citoyen, the Essonne prefecture, the courthouse, the Évry-Val-d'Essonne university, the Agora with its national theatre, and the regional shopping centre opened in 1974 as Évry 2 and renamed Le Spot in December 2023. The cathédrale de la Résurrection Saint-Corbinien, completed in 1995 at the Clos de la Cathédrale, is its architectural landmark.
