The history of the arrondissement

The 7th arrondissement stretches along the left bank of the Rhône, from la Guillotière to the south of the city. La Guillotière, a former working-class faubourg and a land of welcome for immigration, is one of the most cosmopolitan districts in Lyon, with its shops, its markets and its intense street life.

Towards the south, the Gerland district has undergone a deep transformation: a former industrial and slaughterhouse area, it has become a hub of biotechnology, higher education and research, around the École normale supérieure and a science park, without losing its emblematic stadium.

Between the two, the Jean Macé area concentrates shops and housing around its station. The 7th thus mixes a working-class population, students and executives from the new activity hub, which makes it a dynamic arrondissement with prices close to the city average.

Who buys in the 7th

The arrondissement draws varied profiles: young professionals and students around la Guillotière and Jean Macé, executives from the Gerland hub, and investors targeting rental demand supported by the universities and the jobs. The stock ranges from a small older apartment in la Guillotière to recent housing in Gerland. Proximity to transport and employment hubs, more than the address, guides choices.
