Les Sanguinaires is the name of the whole coastal strip that extends Ajaccio westwards, from the edge of town out to the pointe de la Parata and its Genoese tower, facing the islands that give the area its name. The road follows the coast for about ten kilometres, between coves, beaches and rocky headlands.
The building up of the area is recent and almost entirely residential. It took the form of gated developments stepped along the coast road, from Vignola to Barbicaja, from Le Scudo to L'Ariadne and the Résidence des Îles, often with a swimming pool, a garden and direct access to the sea. The seaside cemetery, where Tino Rossi, François Coty and Fred Scamaroni are buried, marks the entrance to the area, and the beaches of Marinella and Barbicaja set the rhythm along the way.
On the market, Les Sanguinaires forms the top of the Ajaccio range, at around 5 502 €/m² for an apartment, on around 82 sales a year. It is the largest volume in the town after Saint-Jean, which makes the average solid.
