The history of the district

The Vaucelles district stretches south of the centre of Caen, on the right bank of the Orne. It is an old area: the site was already in use in Gallo-Roman times, and the parish of Vaucelles, around the Saint-Michel church, dates back to the Middle Ages. Caen station was set up in this area in the middle of the nineteenth century, near the port.

A large part of the district was destroyed during the battle of Caen in 1944, this area having been one of the last to be liberated, then rebuilt. The Saint-Michel de Vaucelles church, whose oldest parts date back to the Middle Ages, survived. The immediate closeness of the station and the centre, the tram and the Twisto bus network provide transport services.

Sought after for its closeness to the station and the centre, Vaucelles sits in the more affordable part of the Caen market. Demand focuses on apartments and houses, sought after for their measured price and the fast link to the centre and the station, both for a first purchase and for investment.
